There are two legends about Gakshibawi Rock. One is describes the time a celestial maiden comes

came down and takes took a bath. She lost her clothes and stayed in the human world, gave birth to three sons,

and then tried to go back up into the sky to find her clothes. However, she fell down after being struck by lightning

and became a rock. The second legend is about awoman who has a warm heart and beautiful appearance

in Bonggil Village.  She married her husband and lived with his single mother. Every time her husband said,

“Gakshi (which means ‘honey’)” to his wife, her mother-in-law abused her wife. She and her husband truly loved

each other, but after three years of marriage,   she still had bore no children. Her mother-in-law asked her to leave

the house because of the could not give her husband a child. She thought that the reason she couldn’t have a child

was because she wasn’t worthy. She prayed to god on a rock,  begging to finally be able to have a child. on the rock

Meanwhile, the mother-in-law found her rising up into the sky and called  after her daughter-in-law. However,

the daughter-in-law drowned and hardened into a stone that looked like a woman kneeling  and praying. Afterwords,

people called this rock ‘Gakshi Rock’ because the woman (Gakshi) had committed suicide at this place.
